How to knit  Checker Stitch:

Work with a multiple of 12 stitches + 1 + 2 edge stitches.

Cast on 27 stitches (12 + 12 + 1 + 2 edge stitches) and work according to chart.

The chart shows only Right Side Rows.

On Wrong Side Rows, work sts as they appear and purl any yarn-over loops.

 

The patt rep = 12 stitches wide.

 

Begin with 1 edge stitch, work patt rep throughout, end with 1 stitch after patt rep and 1 edge stitch.

 

k: Knit

p: Purl

yo: over

K3tog: knit 3 stitches together

sk2p: slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 2 together and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted together stitches

 

Row 1 (right side): edge st, * p2, k3tog, (yo, k1) 3 times, yo, sk2p, p1 *; repeat from * to *; p1, edge st.

Row 2 and all even-numbered rows (wrong side): work each stitch as it appears on this side of work (knit the k sts and purl the p sts) and purl any yarn-over loops.

Row 3: edge st, * p2, k9, p1 *; repeat from * to *; p1, edge st.

Row 5: edge st, * (k1, yo) twice, sk2p, p3, k3tog, yo, k1, yo *; repeat from * to *; k1, edge st.

Row 7: edge st, * k5, p3, k4 *; repeat from * to *; k1, edge st.

Repeat Rows 1-8 throughout.
