PATTERN INFORMATION From the Great Depression, to the hippie movement and recently on fashion runways, granny squares have always been around! Because of their versatility and customization they can be turned into absolutely anything, from the traditional blanket, to summer tops, skirts, bags, cardigans, vests… Anything! You name it! They are an excellent way to make use of your scrap yarn and experiment with color combinations but they are also easy to carry around with you.

SQUARE: Begin with a magic ring

Round 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in the ring, ch 2, * 3 dc in the ring, ch 2 *, repeat 3 times in total (= 4 groups of 3 dc), ch 1, join with a sl st in the 3rd ch, tighten the thread

Round 2: Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in same chain space (=corner space); *(3 dc, ch2, 3 dc) in the next chain space*, repeat *-* 3 times in total (= 3 corners), join with a sl st in the 3rd ch (= 4 corners)

Round 3: Ch 3, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next chain space (=corner space), *3 dc in next chain space, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner space*, repeat *-* 3 times in total; 2 dc in next chain space, join with a sl st in the 3rd ch

Round 4: like round 3 (the round is increased by 1 dc group between each corner on every round)

Round 5: like round 3 (the round is increased by 1 dc group between each corner on every round) The square measures 12 x 12 cm (4.7” x 4.7”)

TRIANGLE Begin with a magic ring

Row 1: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), 3 dc in the ring, ch 2, place a stitch marker in ch 2, 3 dc in the ring, ch 1, 1 dc in the ring, tighten the thread, turn.

Row 2: Ch 4, 3 dc in the first chain space, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the corner space, (3 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) in the last chain space, turn.

Row 3: Ch 4, 3 dc in the first chain space, 3 dc between each dc group across to the stitch marker, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the corner space, 3 dc between each dc group, (3 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) in the last chain space, turn.

Row 4: Repeat row 3.

Row 5: Repeat row 3. The triangle measures 12 x 17 cm (6.7” x 6.7”)
